Westfield Local Heroes is a recognition and awards program that connects and enriches communities. The program discovers and celebrates individuals who make a positive impact to their local community by awarding a $20,000 grant for finalists' affiliated organisation to support their work and programs.
We are pleased to announce that we have two finalists this year. If successful, these grant swill help fund our key support programs - health management kits for newly diagnosed families, and an NF community camp.
Lisa has worked as a paediatric nurse for more than 30+ years and she brings that knowledge and care to her role at the Children's Tumour Foundation.
Her whole life has been dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of every person she meets, whether that has been in a hospital setting, in her work at schools or in her current role as Support Coordinator at the CTF.
Currently, along with supporting people in her local community, she also travels throughout Australia working alongside families and children sharing her knowledge and ensuring they have an understanding of their condition.
Her dedication and passion always ensure every person she connects with feels supported and understands that there is always somewhere for them to turn.
NF is a rare condition that can cause tumours to grow on any nerve cell in your body, but Lisa's patience, knowledge and care provides comfort to hundreds of families each year.
If Lisa is successful, the funds will pay for personalised health kits to be sent to children and adults living with neurofibromatosis, free of charge.
vote for lisaAfter retiring from his role at St Vincent's Public Hospital, Robert has dedicated his time to volunteering.
Robert is a selfless and dedicated volunteer with a can-do attitude. There's no job too big or too small for him to undertake! He supports the CTF with fundraising events and volunteers hours of his time to whatever project comes up, which can change weekly.
The CTF office is in the heritage listed Ardill House, and Robert is the volunteer Vice President of the Committee for this wonderful space that has been reserved (and preserved) for community use. It's a local treasure and so is Robert.
Robert and his team ensure it is space that offers a place for connection and support to a range of different community organisations, like ours.
If Robert is successful, the money will help pay for one of CTF’s children’s camps. The funds would allow 100 children and families with neurofibromatosis to attend.
