PATRON

Alicia Loxley, Patron | Children's Tumour Foundation of Australia

Alicia Loxley

The Children's Tumour Foundation (CTF) would like to publicly recognise and thank its Patron Alicia Loxley for her commitment.

Alicia is a Melbourne-based journalist and is currently the weekend anchor for Nine News and host of Nine’s 4 pm news bulletins.

Alicia's career began at the ABC in radio, which took her to Perth for five years where she became the lead anchor for ABC TV News. She also hosted the State-wide Drive program on ABC Local Radio.

After returning to Melbourne as a reporter for Nine News, she again relocated to Sydney to join the Today Show team.

Alicia has had a box seat to the biggest news stories of the past decade. She led Channel Nine’s Black Saturday bushfires coverage in 2009, was a key member of the network’s Olympics team in London, and co-hosted Victoria Decides 2014 and 2018. She’s regularly hosted the Today Show and was a reporter for Channel Nine’s Inside Story.

Alicia is also an ambassador for the Lighthouse Foundation and My Room Children’s Cancer Charity.

Alicia is an ideal person with whom to discuss ways the CTF can engage media and raise the profile of Neurofibromatosis with the general public.

In May 2021, Alicia interviewed NF Hero and CTF Intern, Jasmine Le Tisser, for NF Awareness Month on Nine's 4 pm news.

honorary LIFE PATRON

John Hughes

John has been the heart and soul of Children’s Tumour Foundation (CTF) for over 10 years. In late 2019, John retired from his position as Chairman to help care for his wife Robyn and father-in-law Tom. In recognition of the decade of support and commitment to the organisation, John was awarded the CTF’s first Honorary Life Member Patron award.

It is safe to say that John has played a pivotal role in making the CTF what it is today. From a small organisation struggling to survive to one that now provides an extensive range of national services and supports specialised clinics in four major hospitals. John has always gone above and beyond for the NF community and with Robyn has personally co-funded with the Listorti family, an entire specialist NF clinic, the ‘Centre for Translational Research and Complex Care’ at Royal North Shore Hospital.

John’s wealth of knowledge and personal commitment enabled CTF to grow and provide a national service that assists some 10,000 Australians impacted by Neurofibromatosis each year. John’s inspiration came from his mum Shirley suffering with NF and it leading to her death. His work is as a legacy to her and all those others who suffer from and are impacted by NF.

His work has brought an entire community out of the shadows, creating an organisation that “celebrates difference” and “acceptance” whilst also providing critically important support services.

Thanks to John, the CTF has built a safe environment for the NF Community where they can build connections, increase wellbeing, and reduce the incidence of social isolation.

Robyn has worked closely alongside John and has also been a tremendous contributor to the organisation with countless hours of volunteering and providing shared services support. Together they have been the major benefactors to the organisation as well as being the key fundraisers.

Without John, wonderfully supported by Robyn, the CTF would not be where it is today, and we hope to continue to build on the legacy they have created and one day conquer NF.
