Webinar: hear from Kate Strohm, Founder and Director of Siblings Australia about support available for siblings
About Kate and Siblings Australia
Kate is the Founder and Director of Siblings Australia
Kate established Siblings Australia in 1999, following careers as a hospital scientist, health educator and counsellor, and a print and radio journalist.
Since then, she has been invited to present across Australia and overseas to siblings, parents and professionals. Her book Siblings has been recognised as an invaluable resource for siblings and their support networks both within Australia and internationally. Kate brings her own personal experience to the position, having grown up with an older sister with cerebral palsy.
Siblings Australia was founded in 1999 by Kate Strohm in the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Adelaide, becoming an independent entity in 2003. The organisation was created with a focus on support for siblings of children and adults with disability, and since their inception they have built a reputation both nationally and internationally for their work with siblings, their families and professionals.
Most recently, Siblings Australia received a three year Information Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) grant through the NDIS, and was recognised as a Disabled Peoples and Families Organisation [DPFO].
About the Webinar
The longest relationship any of us have is likely to be with our siblings. What if your sibling has a chronic illness or has a physical or intellectual disability? How does that impact your relationship? What can we do to nurture these relationships and make sure that the needs of everyone within the family are being met?
Find out what programs are in place to support siblings in Australia.
The presentation will focus on:
- the importance of siblings
- the joys, challenges and needs of siblings
- how siblings can be supported
