Wear your green and blue in support of Neurofibromatosis Awareness Month - May It affects our skin/ brain/ spine/ heart / eyes/ digestive tract and more. My Story - I have NF1 as does my daughter. I have had a couple of surgeries whilst in Primary School to reduce the tumour growing on my jaw line. At the age of 17, whilst in Year 12, I had my jaw reconstructed. Early 20's the plexiform neurofibromas appeared, I had a large one shaved off on my upper left arm as close as they could to the nerve line. For those who don't know - these benign tumours grow on our nerve endings - we have trillions of them. More and more appear as years go by. With this discrimination, stigma or even exclusion could be part of my life in the future, as it does with many NF Warriors. I have had learning challengers going through school, BUT I successfully worked in a Bank for 13 years, I currently manage a School Canteen and am a Supervisor of a Cinema. Did you know, every 3 days in Australia a child will be born with NF! There is NO cure, so much needed research is needed to make our lives easier. We all experience NF differently. So, I am joining the fight for Neurofibromatosis (NF) by fundraising in support of the Children's Tumour Foundation of Australia (CTF). Support, Advocacy and Research.
