Neurofibromatosis is a big word when you are a little person.
Pebbles, the Penguin has been lovingly created in partnership with our friends at Kidstuff, who understand, as we do, how important it is that every child living with neurofibromatosis (NF) not journey alone.
NF causes tumours to grow around nerves in the body, and can lead to significant health issues including, blindness, deafness, bone abnormalities, physical differences, scoliosis, learning difficulties, chronic pain and even cancer. It is progressive, unpredictable and there is no cure.
NF does not discriminate and can affect anyone regardless of ethnicity or gender with half of all cases arising in families with no history of the condition.
Every 3 days a child is born with NF in Australia and they will need a lifetime of support.
The NF journey from diagnosis to treatment is challenging and most of what people will experience is unknown. The Children's Tumour Foundation is the only dedicated support service for people impacted by NF in Australia.
